Why these skills matter

Strokes before lettersIn the Montessori approach, children learn hand control through simple strokes — straight lines, curves, loops and waves — long before they write a letter. These stencils turn that idea into a daily routine.

Grip and controlGuiding a pencil through the grooves builds a comfortable grip and steady hand movement, with the groove keeping the pencil on track.

Step by stepEach set moves from straight lines to curves, loops and zigzags, then to fun shapes like houses and the big owl, so children build control one board at a time.

One set per childWhen everyone has their own set, every child practises at their own level, and no one waits for a turn.

🎮 How to run a group session

📏Everyone starts on straight lines

✏️Trace each groove slowly with a pencil

➰Move up to curves, loops, zigzags

🦉Finish with shapes and the big owl

👩🏫 Teacher & therapist tips

🪑Feet flat, table at elbow height — a stable body makes for steadier hands

✏️Short, chunky pencils help — they nudge little fingers into a natural pinch

🐢Slow and smooth beats fast — praise a steady line, not a finished pile

📦Count back into the box — tidy-up is part of the routine
